CompTIA Certified Trainer CTT+ exam tips

I am happy to have recently been awarded the CompTIA Certified Trainer (CTT+) certification. The CTT+ badge is being made available by Credly: https://www.credly.com/users/stefanosevangelou/badges. This article provides CompTIA Certified Trainer CTT+ exam tips.

The CTT+ certification exam tests in and out of class teaching expertise, including preparation, facilitation and physical or virtual classroom evaluation. To earn the certification, two exams must be passed. In addition to TK0-201, you’ll have to pass either TK0-202, or TK0-203. More details about the CTT+ certification can be found at: https://stefanos.cloud/comptia-ctt-certification-overview/.

This post provides some hands-on tips for passing the CompTIA Certified Trainer CTT+ exams.

Step 1: Pass the TK0-201 exam

The TK0-201 exam is the Computer Based Training (CBT) exam which covers all the theoretical aspects of technical training as per the CTT+ curriculum. There are a handful of resources on the Internet which should prepare you for the TK0-201 exam. In my case I bought and studied the following book by McGraw Hill publishing:

This exam covers a broad spectrum of training qualifications and skills which the potential trainer must be equipped with.

In order to take the TK0-201 CBT exam, you must first register and pay the exam fee via the PearsonVue CompTIA website. You can pay either by credit card or redeem a CompTIA voucher from the CompTIA online store.

After you pass the TK0-201 exam, you should receive your exam score report within 5 business days. You should receive the score report via email and you should also be able to find the score report at the PearsonVue CompTIA website. The score report includes your CompTIA career ID (starting with COMPxyz) and the exam registration ID.

Step 2: Pass the TK0-202 or TK0-203 exam

In my case, I registered for the TK0-203 exam which is the performance-based exam in a Virtual Classroom setting. You should start by thoroughly studying the following TK0-203 preparation guide, entitled "How to Prepare for the Virtual Classroom Trainer Exam". This includes all areas in which the candidates are evaluated by using a score scale of 1-4, with 1 being the poorest performance and 4 being the best performance. The guide is available for download at: https://www.comptia.org/docs/default-source/research-reports/01981-virtual-ctt-classroom-trainer-howtoprepare-2015.pdf

The guide includes information about how to prepare your virtual class, how to perform video recording and how to answer the questions inside the CTT+ forms, available for download at https://www.comptia.org/docs/default-source/research-reports/060519-ctt-vct-tk0-203-forms.docx?sfvrsn=e9a20121_2. Pay extra attention and invest sufficient time in filling-in these forms, as they are part of your CTT+ evaluation. The CTT+ forms should include the following:

  1. Answers to all theoretical questions about steps and actions you took while running the performance-based exam class, in relation to what the scoring judges see in your video recording.
  2. Two (2) witness forms, which are signed by people who verify that you are the trainer shown in the video recording.
  3. Video recording consent forms signed by your virtual class participants.

All the above forms must be combined into one (1) .pdf file. You will also need a pdf copy of your passport and a pdf copy of your TK0-201 CBT exam.

It is important to create some sort of virtual class Web site/page for your class, where you should include all relevant training materials for your students. This Web page can be referenced in your CTT+ forms. An example is my TK0-203 Web page.

Step 3: Submit the .pdf forms and the video recording

The final submission of your .pdf forms and video recording (in .mp4 format) must be carried out by creating a free account at https://www.cttsubmission.com/.

After your TK0-203 exam is evaluated and you have passed it, you should find your final CTT+ certification logo and the PDF certificate at https://www.certmetrics.com/comptia/candidate/cert_summary.aspx.

You can provide proof of your CTT+ certification by giving out the following URL to your colleagues:

http://verify.CompTIA.org along with your personal CompTIA verification code.
